Toroidal and cylindrical tanks
LPG tanks used in automotive gas systems are divided into toroidal ones, i.e. those mounted in place of the spare wheels (in the trunk recesses or under the floor in the case of suspended spare wheels) and cylindrical tanks, which are most often mounted in the luggage compartment.
Size of LPG tanks
Toroidal LPG tanks have capacities of up to over 100 l, and cylindrical ones up to 240 l (in the special LC version by Polmocon, for trucks, up to 545 l). This allows you to adjust the capacity of LPG tanks to the size of the car, fuel consumption and the possibility of installation in the vehicle.
A 34 l LPG cylinder has a smaller capacity compared to a 50 l cylinder, so in the same car equipped with the same engine with the same gas fuel consumption, a smaller cylinder will ensure a shorter range of the car on gas, i.e. it will cover a shorter distance, which results from smaller supply of gas fuel.
In the case of a 34 l cylinder, it is 27.2 l (80% of the geometric capacity) of liquid LPG compared to a 50 l cylinder, which holds 40 l of LPG (also when using, in accordance with the regulations, 80% of the geometric capacity).
A 34-liter LPG cylinder will be cheaper to refuel compared to a 50-liter cylinder
This also means that a 34-liter LPG cylinder will be cheaper to refuel compared to a 50-liter cylinder. In the case of the LPG price of PLN 2.89/l (according to the e-petrol quotations of January 10, 2024), this means that filling a 34-liter LPG cylinder will cost PLN 78.61 (80% of the geometric capacity), and in the case of 50 l will amount to PLN 115.60.
A 34 l LPG cylinder will be cheaper to purchase compared to a 50 l cylinder
A 34-liter toroidal LPG cylinder will also be cheaper compared to a 50-liter (toroidal) cylinder.
Ultimately, the choice of LPG cylinder capacity depends on individual needs and preferences, such as the distance the car travels, the amount of space in the trunk and the price of the autogas tank. Usually, however, a 50-liter LPG cylinder is more practical for people who travel frequently, especially over longer distances.
